Quick Take: UGREEN Nexode 100W GaN Charger - The Only Charger You Need?
Embedded content Short

One week testing the UGREEN Nexode 100W. The question: Can one charger replace three?

The Proposition

4 ports: 2× USB-C (up to 100W), 2× USB-A (22.5W each)
GaN technology: Smaller, cooler than silicon chargers
Price: $79
Promise: Replace MacBook charger (96W) + iPad charger + iPhone charger

Week 1 Testing

Devices charged: MacBook Pro 16”, iPad Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, AirPods, Apple Watch
Charge cycles: 35+
Travel days: 3 (hotel + airport testing)

Power Distribution: The Critical Test

Scenario 1: MacBook Only

Port 1 (USB-C): 100W
Result: MacBook charges at full speed

Same as Apple 96W charger: Yes.

Scenario 2: MacBook + iPhone

Port 1: 65W (MacBook)
Port 2: 30W (iPhone)

Result: MacBook charges slower, iPhone fast charges. Both happy.

Scenario 3: MacBook + iPad + iPhone

Port 1: 45W (MacBook)
Port 2: 30W (iPad)
Port 3: 22.5W (iPhone)

Result: Everything charges, but MacBook crawls. Fine for overnight, not for active use.

Scenario 4: All 4 Ports

Distribution: 45W, 30W, 18W, 7.5W

Result: Chaos. USB-A ports get priority, MacBook barely charges.

Verdict: Realistically a 3-device charger. 4th port is for low-power devices only.

Heat Management

After 1 hour at 100W: Warm (48°C), not hot
After 3 hours at mixed load: Same temp
Overnight charging: Cool to touch in morning

Comparison to Apple charger: Runs cooler (Apple silicon chargers get hot).

Safety: No thermal throttling observed. GaN advantage is real.

Size & Portability

Dimensions: 70 × 70 × 32mm
Weight: 218g

Comparison:

  • Apple 96W charger: 83g (lighter but only 1 port)
  • 3 separate chargers: ~280g total

In bag: Takes up space of large charger, replaces three.

Foldable prongs: Yes (US version). Huge for travel.

Verdict: Bigger than single charger but eliminates cable mess.

Build Quality

Housing: Plastic, matte finish
Ports: Tight, no wobble
Prongs: Fold smoothly, feel durable
Cable: None included (buy separately)

After 1 week: No scuffs, all ports functional.

The Math: Is It Worth It?

UGREEN Nexode 100W: $79

vs buying separately:

  • Apple 96W charger: $79
  • Apple 20W charger: $19
  • Generic USB-A charger: $12
  • Total: $110

Savings: $31

But you lose:

  • Ability to charge in 3 different locations simultaneously
  • Redundancy if charger fails while traveling

Verdict: Worth it if you charge devices sequentially (nightstand, desk). Not worth it if you need simultaneous charging in different rooms.

Real-World Use Case

My travel kit (before):

  • MacBook charger
  • iPad charger
  • iPhone charger
  • 3× cables
  • Cable organizer

My travel kit (after):

  • UGREEN Nexode
  • 3× cables

Bag weight reduced: 62g
Bag complexity reduced: Significantly

Airport: One charger, all devices. Game changer.

One Week Verdict

UGREEN Nexode 100W works as advertised with one caveat: It’s a 2-3 device charger, not a true 4-device charger.

For travel and minimalism, it’s excellent. For home use where you want simultaneous fast charging in multiple rooms, individual chargers win.

After one week, it’s staying in my travel bag. But I kept individual chargers at home.

Buy If:

✅ You travel frequently
✅ You charge devices overnight/sequentially
✅ You want less cable clutter
✅ You value bag space

Skip If:

❌ You need 4 devices fast-charging simultaneously
❌ You charge devices in different rooms
❌ You own USB-C devices only (get 2-port 140W charger instead)
❌ Budget is tight (individual chargers cheaper)

Quick Score: 8/10

The missing points: Add true 4-device 100W distribution, and it’s perfect.

Bottom line: Best travel charger, not best home charger.

Quick Take: One week is enough.
